Memphis sees value in Jones

Jones was expected to play a significant role in the upcoming 2023-2024 season. That's because starting point guard Jah Morant was suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct. Morant will miss the first 25 games of next season. Jones was expected to take over the starting role in his place.

 

However, Memphis is looking to trade Jones. His contract expires at the end of next season, and they're looking to add another asset. There are also concerns. Aside from Jones, Memphis currently doesn't have a guard who can carry the ball. With Morant unable to play right away, they need a guard to fill that void. It's hard to know what they're looking for, but they could find a guard in the draft or bundle other existing prospects to get an experienced guard. By sending Jones away, they could be looking to acquire assets that could help them in the future. However, it is doubtful that the Clippers would be interested in Jones, and it will be important for Memphis to be satisfied with what the Clippers could offer. Toronto also needs a guard. They are virtually certain to part ways with Fred VanVleet this summer. With a player option, he's on the market.
