Memphis sees value in Jones
The Memphis Grizzlies are mulling over a backcourt change.
"According to Jake Fisher of Yahoo Sports, Memphis is exploring a trade for Tyreese Jones (guard, 6-foot-9, 209 pounds).
Jones was expected to play a significant role in the upcoming 2023-2024 season. That's because starting point guard Jah Morant was suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct. Morant will miss the first 25 games of next season. Jones was expected to take over the starting role in his place.
However, Memphis is looking to trade Jones. His contract expires at the end of next season, and they're looking to add another asset. There are also concerns. Aside from Jones, Memphis currently doesn't have a guard who can carry the ball. With Morant unable to play right away, they need a guard to fill that void. Nevertheless, Memphis is open to trade opportunities.
It's hard to know what they're looking for, but they could find a guard in the draft or bundle other existing prospects to get an experienced guard. By sending Jones away, they could be looking to acquire assets that could help them in the future. However, if they do move Jones, they should definitely look to acquire a ball-handler through other avenues. Considering Morant won't be playing, they'll need to get at least two.
Jones was a standout last season. He played a lot of minutes, starting 80 games. It's been a while since he played 80+ games since he started 메이저사이트 every game in the 2017-2018 season. He filled in well when Morant missed time due to injury or suspension, including starting in 22 of those games. He averaged 10.3 points (.438 .371 .800), 2.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and one steal in 24.3 minutes per game.
He averaged double-digit points for the first time since entering the NBA, showing the skills to be a starting-caliber guard. His salary for next season isn't much either, at $14 million. With so many teams looking to add to their backcourt, it's worth a look. The Los Angeles Clippers and Toronto Raptors, both of whom are in need of a guard, are the most likely destinations for Jones.
The Clippers need a point guard. They've also signaled that they're looking to make changes within their roster. However, it is doubtful that the Clippers would be interested in Jones, and it will be important for Memphis to be satisfied with what the Clippers could offer. The Clippers have indicated that they would be willing to trade one or two of Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, and Norman Powell in this deal.
Toronto also needs a guard. They are virtually certain to part ways with Fred VanVleet this summer. With a player option, he's on the market. It'll be important to see if the Raptors can make a sign-and-trade move like they did with Kyle Lowry (Miami). Adding Jones to the mix would be a nice addition to the guard corps. 메이저사이트주소
Jones re-signed with Memphis last summer. Memphis sat him down for two years and $29 million. Memphis started Morant and Desmond Baines in the frontcourt, with Jones as the backup. The team maintained a solid frontcourt despite a season full of injuries, which helped them finish second in the Western Conference with a 51-31 record last season.
